Sonoma County permits and rules for portable toilets
In unincorporated Sonoma County, Permit Sonoma issues encroachment permits for the public right-of-way. Any object placed in the road, shoulder or sidewalk needs one, including bins and temporary items. Special events like parades, races and street fairs have a separate permit. A unit on your private road or ranch yard needs no permit.
Questions go to Permit Sonoma Engineering at (707) 565-2268.
Weather and ground in Sonoma County
Sonoma County has hills, narrow rural roads and long gravel drives. Many vineyard and ranch roads cannot fit a large truck, so we need photos or a map pin. Winter rain is heavy, and clay soil turns to mud. Pick a spot on gravel or pavement from November to March.
Coastal areas get wind and fog, so we secure units on open hillsides.
Common porta potty jobs in Sonoma County
Fire rebuild and repair work still brings long-term jobs to the hills around Santa Rosa and Glen Ellen. Vineyard weddings and winery events need deluxe units or restroom trailers. Harvest crews work the vineyards from August into October. Ranch and dairy work around Petaluma needs crew units. Home remodels and ADU builds are common in Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Sebastopol.
Sonoma County porta potty questions
Short, local answers for Sonoma County jobs and events, from road access to permits.
Can a restroom trailer reach a hillside vineyard in Sonoma County?
That depends on the road. Restroom trailers need a level spot, a turnaround and a nearby power outlet. Steep or narrow vineyard roads may only fit standard or flushing units. Send us photos of the drive and the spot. We will tell you what fits before you book.
Why is next-day delivery standard in Sonoma County?
Our yard is in Davis, and most of Sonoma County is 65 to 90 miles away. We route trucks there when we have several stops. Call by 9 a.m. for a chance at same-day. For weddings and events, book a week or more ahead.
Do I need a county permit for a unit by a rural road?
A unit on a county road shoulder needs an encroachment permit from Permit Sonoma. Set it back on your own land and no road permit is needed. Keep it clear of the road edge and drainage ditches. Our driver can help you pick a spot.
How do winter storms affect a Sonoma County rental?
Heavy rain softens dirt drives and turns clay yards to mud. Our trucks can get stuck on wet dirt. Place the unit on gravel or pavement in winter. If a storm blocks the road, we will reschedule service once it is safe.
