Backyard Party Porta Potty Checklist
A porta potty keeps party guests out of your house and off your one bathroom. This checklist covers what to measure, where to place the unit and what to tell us when you book.

Step 1: Count your guests and hours
Plan 1 standard porta potty for every 50 guests at a party of up to 4 hours. A 60-guest graduation party needs 2 units. Add 1 unit if you are serving alcohol. If the party runs past 4 hours, plan 1 unit for every 35 guests instead.
Try the calculator for exact counts.
Step 2: Measure the gate and the path
A standard porta potty is about 43.5 inches wide, so the crew needs a gate at least 48 inches wide to roll it into the back yard. The path should be firm and mostly flat. Steps, narrow side yards or soft lawn mean the unit goes on the driveway instead.
Step 3: Pick the porta potty spot
Pick a level spot 30 to 50 feet from food and seating, downwind if you can. Keep it off sprinkler heads, septic lids and pool decks. Face the door toward the party, not the neighbors. Put a light on the path if the party runs after dark.
Step 4: Book the right delivery day
For a Saturday party, book Friday delivery and Monday pickup. The price is the same as one day. Book 1 to 2 weeks ahead for spring and graduation weekends. Add a hand washing station if you are serving food.
Party units start at $249 with delivery and pickup. See party and event rentals.
Step 5: Prepare for the driver
Mark the spot with a cone, stake or chalk. Add gate codes, dogs and parking notes to your order. Keep cars off the driveway on delivery day. The driver calls about 30 minutes ahead and texts a photo once the unit is placed.
Step 6: After the party
Close the lid and door. Keep trash, diapers and food out of the tank, since they add a cleaning charge. Leave the gate unlocked or share the code for Monday pickup. You do not need to be home.
